Leadership Music Digital Summit Addresses Future Investment In Music
LEADERSHIP MUSIC DIGITAL SUMMIT ADDRESSES
FUTURE INVESTMENT IN MUSIC

Nashville, TN (4-9-08) – The cornerstone question of “Future Money: Who Will Invest in Music?” will highlight the fourth annual Leadership Music Digital Summit on Tuesday, April 22 at Belmont University. Venture capital experts Chris Fralic (San Francisco) and Paul A. Santinelli (San Mateo, CA) will discuss how changing business models are affecting investment sources, addressing the ultimate question: Is music a risk worth taking?
With the traditional label-supported infrastructure shifting dramatically, Music Row has recently drawn investors from out of town: Ticketmaster acquired a stake in echomusic, Mozes purchased Hurricane Interactive, and Montage Music Group’s investors are from East Elton, Illinois. Because this is a crucial topic for the Nashville music community which is rich in business and creative talent, Leadership Music is devoting time specifically for this issue.
“Future Money: Who Will Invest in Music?” will be moderated by New York-based Peter Kafka, Managing Editor of Silicon Alley Insider, a business site focusing on the intersection of the technology, media, and communications industries.
Discussion topics include:
•     Is it a transforming, exciting time for entrepreneurs and innovation?
•     If so, where is the best potential for profit?
•     What are the best technologies for investment?
•     With more music than ever reaching the fans, is there revenue to create sustainable business models?
•     If investors are excited about music, how can they catch the next wave?

Chris Fralic
Fralic is a Partner at First Round Capital, an early stage venture capital firm with offices in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and New York. He has over 23 years of technology industry experience, with significant Internet business development roles since 1996. Prior to joining First Round, Fralic held executive positions at social bookmarking and tagging company del.icio.us, at Half.com and at eBay in a variety of entertainment, business development and media roles.

Paul A. Santinelli
Santinelli joined North Bridge Venture Partners in 2006, focusing on investments in the areas of Open Source, software, security, and communications. He has held various engineering, product management, and marketing positions in companies including Red Hat, IBM, Lotus Development, NOCpulse, Inc., Global Crossing and Compuware.

Frances Preston Honored as 2007 Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award recipient
NASHVILLE September 24, 2007 – Last week the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville celebrated the career of Frances Preston, former President and CEO of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). Long considered one of the most powerful music executives in the world, Preston was the 2007 recipient of the Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award. The annual award was given for her leadership year after year, decade after decade and her dedication to her lifelong career in music.

The sold-out gala was hosted by Vince Gill and included a virtual 'Who's Who" in entertainment, business, politics and medicine. The show opened with gospel star Mandisa and the Greater Nashville Community Choir and veteran country artists The Oak Ridge Boys sang the national anthem before dinner. Production guru David Holloway of Holloway Special Productions produced the musical tribute including Sheryl Crow (If It Makes You Happy, All I Wanna Do, Strong Enough), Randy Owen, Sam Moore (I Can’t Stand the Rain, You Are So Beautiful) and Callaway, Steve Cropper (Dock of the Bay) Gary Morris (Wind Beneath My Wings), and pianist Greg Colson. But Preston’s favorite performance of the evening was given by new artist Taylor Preston, her grandson, who serenaded her with “Forever Young”.

Video tributes were given by Clive Davis, Dolly Parton, Big & Rich and Al Gore. Addressing Preston's outstanding career were: Orrin Ingram, Dr. Hal Moses, Bill Ivey, and Bill Denny. Though retired from BMI, Preston still maintains a demanding schedule with consulting and advocacy for cancer research. Proceeds from the event were to benefit Leadership Music and the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories: Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center.
